Voices from the Watershed Videos

Community support for restoration of migratory fish to the Penobscot River while maintaining energy production has been strong since plans for the Penobscot River Restoration Project were first announced in 2003. Residents of communities throughout the Penobscot watershed, as well as visitors, recognize the many benefits that will come from re-opening the main stem of the Penobscot River and the improved access to nearly 1,000 miles of important habitat where sea-run fish spawn and their young grow before returning to sea. We anticipate renewed opportunities for recreational and sustenance fishing, paddling from Old Town to the sea without any major portages, white water paddling, wildlife viewing, and related cultural and economic benefits. Here, we offer voices from communities in the watershed as they describe what they value about the Penobscot River, and why they support restoration of this magnificent river.
